Description

Folios 118-120. A letter from Sir John Clobery [Cloberry] to the Earl of Sunderland, dated at Winchester [Hampshire], concerning rumours of an apparition of [the ghost of] King Charles II to James II, accusing him of murdering him, which caused Queen Mary to miscarry and die of fright. Enclosing: Folio 119. The examinations of Anne Skinner, aged 21, and Constance Master, aged 17, both of St Maurice, Winchester, quoting the claim of Mary Kemp. Folio 120. Clobery to Sunderland, dated at Winchester, providing an account of the testimony of Kemp, aged 16, before the Quarter Sessions.
