Folio 87. A letter from the Duke of Newcastle to Lord [Sunderland], dated at Welbeck [Abbey, Nottinghamshire], concerning the election to parliament of Sir William Cliffton [Clifton] and Mr [Reason] Mellish [for Nottinghamshire], about which he has written to Lord Halifax. Cliffton was supported by Lord Kingston; and Lord Elland did not stand. The Duke has employed his interest in Derbyshire for Sir Robert Cook and Sir Gilbert Clark. Mr Lambton has been chosen as deputy recorder of Newcastle [upon Tyne] by his the late King [Charles II]. Sir Scroop How [Howe] is to have his arms restored.
