Description

Folios 75-76. Folio 75. Précis of the following letter. Folio 76. Letter from Major Jo [John] Walter to [Francis Royley]. Walter says he has been informed that [Royley] has been appointed to assist in the prosecution of the purchasers of Crown, bishops, Dean and Chapter and pretended deliquents' estates with false and forged bonds, bills and debentures and that it is a pity 'to suffer such principled men to go unpunished'. Reports are that nearly 50,000 cases have been proved and 'a little time with samll expense will revive and put this business into a good posture again'. Walter leaves it to [Royley]'s serious consideration. At the foot: 'These from the Doctor's hand, Councillor Fincham, Atwod, Johnson, Creamer, Sturney, Brent, Wats'. Endorsed: 'A state of the case under Major Walter's hand'.
