Description

Folios 56-61. Folio 56. Hampton Court. Order in Council referring the annexed petition to the Committee for Trade and Plantations. Folios 57-58. Richard Buckner, Rich [Richard] Sanders, Jeremiah Kidder, William Boundy, Richard ffifield [Fifield], Thomas Glover and Marmaduke Dixon in behalf of themselves and other handicraft and retail salesmen of London and the suburbs to the King. Petition that they as 'native born subjects bred to manual arts and retail trades' are hindered in the profitable exercise of their trades by many Dutch, Spanish, 'Jermines' and other 'aliens' who incorporate themselves, for the most part employ their own countrymen and enjoy many privileges beyond the King's own subjects. They pray that their petition be referred to the appropriate committee for consideration. Endorsed: Received June 2. 1686, and read July 23, 1686. Nothing to be done. Folios 60-61. Proposals by the petitioners for consideration by the Committee for Trade and Plantations. Endorsed as the petition.
