Folios 615-616: Robert Cuthbert, Sea Fencibles, Hull. Encloses a copy of the letter he received from Lieutenant John Shaw at Dimlington Signal House. 3 March 1804. Letter from Lieutenant John Shaw, Dimlington Signal House, to Captain Robert Cuthbert, Hull. Reports that early that morning he observed eight sloops sailing northwards along the coast, later joined by a ninth, all of which he suspects may be enemy vessels. They were carrying flags at their mastheads, but he could not distinguish their colours. They are still in sight, standing to the Northeast or East. PS Captain Cuthbert says he has not heard anything further from Lieutenant Shaw but suspects the vessels may have been coasters trying to make their way South in the face of a Southeasterly breeze.
