Description

Folios 585-586: William Cuming, HMS Prince of Wales, Spithead. Reports that his Carpenter, Mr Mathews, is confined to his bed and unfit for duty. Despite Sir Robert Calder's application for the Carpenter of HMS Namur to be appointed to the Prince of Wales, asks instead whether Daniel Scarville, currently Carpenter of HMS Zealous, could be appointed instead. Mr Scarville has served under him previously in the Baltic and has a good character.

Folio 587: enclosed with folios 585-586. Admiralty order that Admiral Montague should issue an order for the Carpenter of HMS Zealous to act in HMS Prince of Wales and notify the Navy Board so they can give the Zealous' Carpenter leave of absence.
