Description

Folio 536: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. About the request from Thomas Grosthwaite requesting the discharge of Thomas Douglas, he states that he was impressed at the Isle of Manand has never been to sea. He returns the inclosures.

Folios 537-538: enclosure with folio 536. Letter dated 20 November 1804 by Thomas Douglas, HMS Princess, to Thomas Grosthwaite. Appealing for help to get him discharged.

Folio3 539-540: enclosure with folio 536. Thomas Grosthwaite on oath before Thomas Golightly, one of HM JPs of Lancashire, 5 December 1804 to wit - that Thomas Grosthwaite of Liverpool, one of the proprietors of the Carron Company and agent for that company in Liverpool makes oath that he knows Thomas Douglas, now on board HMS Princess, is a dealer in timber staves and hoops and occasionally went from Whitehaven to the Isle of Man to deal and to collect his debts, bringing back herring. He has never being employed in the sea service and is 39 years old and of good character.

Folios 541-542: enclosure with folio 536. Letter dated 6 December 1804 by Thomas Grosthwaite, Liverpool. Appealing for the discharge of Thomas Douglas from on board HMS Princess.
