Description

Folio 510: Samuel Colquitt, HMS Princess, Liverpool. In reply to letter of 1 November, James Spender, apprentice to James Spencer, and John Cropper belonging to the Corps were sent round in the Rosa tender on 1 November to Plymouth for the disposal of the commander in chief there and Edward Silcock of Knowsley were detained on HMS Princess in consequence of information from Captain Culverhouse.

Folios 511-512: enclosure with folio 510. Letter dated 30 October 1804 by Harvey Wright, Captain Commander, Loyal Knowsley Volunteers, Knowsley, near Prescott. John Cropper and Edward Silcock belonging to the Corps of Knowsley were impressed in Liverpool while intoxicated. Captain Colquitt cannot discharge them without permission.

Folios 513-514: enclosure with folio 510. Letter dated 30 October 1804 by James Spencer, Liverpool. Enclosing the indenture of apprenticeship of James Spender to Francis Williamson. James Spender ran and is believed to be on board HMS Princess.

Folios 515-516: enclosure with folio 510. Letter dated 26 October 1804 by James Spender, Liverpool on board HMS Princess to James Spencer. Apologising for getting drunk and appealng for help to get discharged.

Folio 517: enclosure with folio 510. Letter dated 18 August 1804 by Lieutenant Joseph Clark, Impress Service, Isle of Man. Confirming that William Cropper was a schoolmaster in Douglas Isle of Man and conducted himself with great assiduity and attention.
