Folios 215-216: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Response to a request to state the case of John Mills, who was impressed on 30 May 1804. He was detained as he was considered fit for service by the surgeon, despite having on him a ticket to say that he had been invalided from HMS Orion on her return from the Leeward Islands early in the late war, but to this had been added in another hand paralysis and palsied loins.
Folios 217-218: enclosure with folios 215-216. Letter dated 20 June 1804 May Ann Mills, 32 Angel Gardens, Ratcliff Highway to Lord Melville. Request for her husband John Mills to be released after being impressed. He is now on HMS Eliza at North Shields and she alleges that he was plundered of his cash by the impress men when he was taken and she and her child are now destitute. She states that her husband is the nephew of John Farquhar of Pitscandly and he had an invalid ticket due to splintered ribs, paralysis and at times derangement in his intellect.
Folios 219-220: enclosure with folios 215-216. Letter dated 10 June 1804 by John Mills, HMS Eliza, North Shields to Lord Melville. Request for him to intercede and obtain his release from impress. Explains that he was invalided in the War, where he served under John Thomas Duckworth on HMS Orion, on the Leeward Islands station. He is the only nephew of John Farquhar of Pitscandly, Forfar, who wrote to have him promoted in service. However he was invalided and has now been impressed by William Charleton.
