Folios 91-92: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Response to the order to discharge Mates and Carpenters who were impressed whilst they were in port between their voyages. Requests clarification on nine cases, outlines the circumstances of the mens impressment and asks for guidance on the proof required in relation to the Act of 1791.
Folios 93-95: enclosure with folios 91-92. Report dated 19 May 1804 by William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Report outlining considerations upon the Act of 31, with reference to apprenticeships in the coal shipping trade, their conditions of service and how the Act affects being pressed whilst not working for this trade but still under apprenticeship. Asks for clarification on what proof can be used to prevent a Mate or Carpenter being impressed.
