Folios 490-491: William Charleton, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Matthew Redman was impressed at Shields on 15 February. The Act which exempts Seamen from impressment if they are Greenland fishermen, does not allow them to be rambling about 80 miles from their ship.
Folios 492-493: enclosure wuth folios 490-491.Letter dated 24 February 1804 by Phillip Moorson, Whitby. Matthew Redman of the Volunteerwas impressed abpoard the Eliza at North Shields. The Act says that Whalers cannot be impressed after the 1st Frebruary in any year. He was in North Shields just to collect his clothes for the voyage so he should be discharged.
Folio 494: enclosure with folios 490-491. Certificate dated 18 February 1804 by Francis Gibson and Thomas Parkin, Custom's House, Whitby. This certifies that Matthew Redman belongs to the ship the Volunteer which is engaged in the Greenland Fishery.
