Folios 222-223: John Henry Carter, [?] Hotel, Westminster Bridge. Is enclosing his researches into the activities of the Companies of Fishermen in his area, which they have endeavoured to keep from him. He believes they strangle trade and increase prices. The oyster grounds are held by Companies under Lord Bolingbroke, Whitstable, Lord Londes, Faversham and Charter from the Crown, Queensborough. All of them refuse to allow servants or apprentices to help with Oyster fishing except for sons of fishermen in the Company. They are conducting the case against Cartier, brought by Hodges and thousands of pounds have been subscribed for this purpose. Captain Mortimore brought Mr Greete into HMS Brodencarp as a spy against him. The Stroud Company hold their right to the grounds under Rochester Corporation and can take as many apprentices into their ships as they like so they provide Seamen to serve in the Navy.
