The Trading Standards Institute dates from 1881 and was initially known as the Incorporated Society of Inspectors of Weights and Measures, before becoming the Institute of Trading Standards Administration (ITSA) in 1956. It is the professional association which represents trading standards professionals in the UK and overseas - in local authorities, the business and consumer sectors and in central government.
