The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the UK's independent regulator of advertising industry in the UK across all media, including TV, internet, sales promotions and direct marketing. The ASA was established in 1962 to adjudicate on complaints that advertisements had breached the new British Code of Advertising Practice Code (the CAP Code). Its role is to ensure advertisements are legal, decent, honest and truthful by applying the Advertising Codes. The ASA receives no Government funding and is wholly funded by advertisers through a levy on advertising spend.
