The Intellectual Property Office is the official government body responsible for intellectual property rights in the UK. It was an executive agency of the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) and then became an executive agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The Intellectual Property Office became an operating name of The Patent Office on 2 April 2007.
