The aim of the Forum for Preventing Deaths in Custody is to identify learning opportunities arising from deaths across the various custodial sectors, to prevent future deaths. The Forum covers areas that fall within the responsibility of the Home Office, Ministry of Justice and Department of Health. In practice, this means looking at the deaths of people detained in police custody, prison, approved premises, immigration custody and those detained under the Mental Health Act.
