He writes to enclose the list of ships (not enclosed) who sailed with him from the Gut of Lando with the intention of joining a soutbound convoy under the command of HMS Loire. This last he was prevented from doing because of the severe weather. He thinks the ships hoved to along the Nova Scotia coast. He sayes this because of orders he received from Rear Admiral Griffiths the day he left Halifax to sail to his present anchorage.
Folios 424-425: enclosure with folio 423. Orders dated 13 November 1814 by Edward Griffith, Rear Admiral of the White, Commanding the whole fleet on the North America Station. He writes to Henry Bourne of HMS Rattler and orders him to proceed to the Gut of Lando and if he finds any vessels there waiting to join a Southbound convoy, he is to tell the masters of any such ship that the sailing of the convoy has been postponed until the 20th of the month. That done Captain Bourne is to wait in the Gut of Lando until HMS Loire appears and then act as directed by HMS Loire.
