Folios 16-21. A letter from John Robinson to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] concerning a fatal attack on soldiers guarding a seized consignment of Geneva [gin] at Canterbury [Kent]. Enclosing: Folio 17. Excise Commissioners to Treasury Commissioners, dated at the Excise Office, London. Signed by: D Papillon; George L Scott; A Lucas; W Lowndes; St Brooksbank; William Burrell; J [John] Pownall; and H Legg. Enclosing: Folio 18-19. Lieutenant Colonel James Hugonin, of 4th Dragoons, to the Excise Commissioners, dated at Canterbury on 1 March 1780. Folio 20-21. A letter from Jos [Joseph] Nicholson, dated at Canterbury on 29 February 1780. Describes the seizure of a tubs of Geneva at Whitstable [Kent], the recovery of it under guard from Corporal Pope and eight dragoons, and the fatal attack mounted upon the party, on the road to Canterbury, by a 'large gang of ruffians'.
