Description

Folios 198-206. A letter from John Robinson [Treasury Secretary], dated at Syon Hill [Middlesex], dated on 29 September 1777, concerning a Portuguese ship 'Bon Jesus de Fam' [Mansel Rodriguez, captain] captured by the 'Bee' cutter [and detained in the Colne Estuary, on suspicion of links to the American rebels], mentioning deposition taken by [the collector of Harwich, Essex, Henry Pelham] Davis. Also mentions a hope of good news from [?William] Howe. Folio 199. A letter from Robinson, dated at Treasury Chambers [Middlesex] on 29 September 1777, enclosing a journal and papers from the ship forwarded by Mr [Edward] Stanley. Folio 200. Stanley [to Robinson], dated at Customs House, London, on 26 September 1777, enclosing a letter form the Collector and Comptroller of Harwich. Folio 201. Price to the Customs commissioners, dated at Customs House, Harwich, on 25 September 1777, enclosing papers. Folio 202. Stanley to Robinson, dated at Customs House, London, on 25 September 1777, enclosing the ship's journal. Folio 203. Copy of a document, dated at Customs House, Harwich, on 24 September 1777, describing the search of the ship's cargo, and arms discovered, signed by Price and [Comptroller] Js [James] Cole. Mentions storms on Monday [22 September 1777]. Enclosed in: Folio 204. Robinson to Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers, dated on 2 October 1777. Folio 205. Stanley to Robinson, dated at Customs House, London, on 30 September 1777, mentioning Mr [?J] Lowe's letter, and enclosing: Folio 206. Account of the vessel's cargo, mentioning that it sailed from Amsterdam, and signed by Davies and Cole.
