Folios 193-195. A letter from John Robinson to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at the Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] providing intelligence from Brest [France]. Enclosing: Folio 194-195. Intelligence report, describing the number of ships present, and naval preparations. Mention: The 'General Mifflin, under captain Day, and an 'American' privateer; convoy to L'Orient [Lorient]; a privateer commanded by one Fletcher; a sloop of war cruising between Ushant and Sicily; a brig bound for Gibraltar from Leith [Midlothian, Scotland] and a vessel from Ireland bound for Bordeaux, both brought as prizes to France; the Lexington' privateer, Captain Johnson, in the Bay of Morlaix, with 40 British seamen aboard; a visit of all fortifications and seaports by the Provincial Intendant; ship-building for the Americans at St Malo, Havre [de Grace] and Nantz [Nantes]; a loan to the Americans by the French King [Louis XVI] of fifty-million livres; and six regiments to be sent, and four already in the West Indies.
