Description

Folios 170-173. A letter from John Robinson to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] concerning ships in Ireland suspected of loading goods intended for France. Customs officers have been ordered to watch out for them arriving in London, or elsewhere in England. Mentions: Mr [Philip] Stephens, secretary to the Admiralty. Enclosing: Folio 171. J Bereford, J [John] ?Monck Mason and Robt [Robert] Waller to the Treasury Commissioners, dated at Customs House, Dublin. Mentions: barrels of beef said to be for London, shipped aboard the Bordeaux packet, Rowland Williams master, by Jerome Sequin; correspondence from the collector of Plymouth [Devon], Henry Totcher junior, concerning the ships 'Brothers' and 'Industry', cleared out of Falmouth [Cornwall]; a letter from John McDermot, surveyor of Ringsend. Folio 173. Beresford, Mason and Waller to the Lords of the Treasury, dated at Customs House Dublin. Patk [Patrick] Whelan's entry [?request for export permission] for beef and pork to London aboard the 'Good Intent', John Bale master, suspicion the real destination is France, and the investigations of tide-waiter Mr ?Reid.
