Description

Folios 60-77. A letter from Lord North to Viscount Weymouth, enclosing papers on a contract for 100,000 gallons of Jamaican rum made with Mure and Company [Mure, Son, and Atkinson], relevant to Lord Effingham's motion [in the House of Lords]. Folio 61. Minutes of the meeting, at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex], dated on 27 March 1776, between North, Mr Townsend, and Mr Cornwall, at which a letter from Richard Atkinson was read. Folio 62. Minutes of meeting dated on 21 January 1777, attended by North, Townsend, Cornwall, Lord Beauchamp, Lord Onslow, and also attended by Messrs Atkinson, Blackburn and Burfort. Also mentions: General [Guy] Carleton's letter; the capture of the 'Hero' and the 'Minerva' by [American] rebels; and rum supplies to Canada. Folio 63. Minutes of meeting, dated on 3 June 1777, attended by North, Onslow, Townsend, Beauchamp, Cornwall, and Richard Atkinson, for supplying rum to HM's forces in America, at 5s 3d per gallon. Folio 64. Minutes of meeting, dated on 11 June 1777. Mentions Richard Neave, Mr Long and Alderman [?Richard] Oliver, concerning an examination of Atkinson. Folio 65. Minutes of meeting, dated on 13 June 1777. Folio 66. Minutes of meeting, dated on 18 June 1777. Mentions Sir Wm [William] How [Howe] and a contract for 350,000 gallons of rum. Folio 67. Minutes of meeting, dated on 27 June 1777. Mentions Messrs Mure, Son and Atkinson. Folio 68. Minutes of meeting, dated on 29 July 1777. Mentions Messrs Mure, Son and Atkinson. Folio 69. Minutes of meeting, dated on 31 July 1777. Considers the report of Messrs Long, Neave, Glover and Crighton. Mr Atkinson provides information on insurance for: the ship 'Fame', Captain Thornton; the 'Loyalty', Captain Atkinson; the 'Ann', Captain Kennedy; and the 'Hero', Captain Harford. An insurance certificate from broker Colin Mackenzie. Folio 70. Minutes of meeting, dated on 5 August 1777. Considers contract entered into by Sir William Howe with Mure, Son and Atkinson. Folio 71. Minutes of meeting, dated on 13 August 1777. Letter from Atkinson. Folio 72. Minutes of meeting, dated on 21 October 1777. Folio 73. Minutes of meeting, dated at Bushy Park [Surrey] on 13 January [1778] 1777. Letter read from Howe, dated at Philadelphia on 30 November 1777. Folio 74. Minutes of meeting, dated on 29 July 1777. Folio 75. Minutes of meeting, dated on 24 January 1778, attended by North, Cornwall, Lord Westcote and Lord Palmerstone. Folio 76-77. Minutes of meeting, dated on 10 February 1778. Further consideration of Mure's letter, mentioning: Mr Chamier, late commissary general to HM's troops in America; Mr Loring, agent to Messrs Mure, Son and Atkinson; and a copy of Mr Wier's report.
