Folios 47-48. A letter from John Porten to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] concerning information against [Thomas Attwood] Diggs [Digges of Maryland] who has been active at Bristol [Gloucestershire, for the American rebels] and will soon appear in Spain as an agent of Congress. He has recruited, pilots at Bristol [Gloucestershire] familiar with the North American coast and sent them to Bordeaux, Dunkirk and Nantes [France], enhancing trade in tobacco, rice and indigo with Virginia. He also plans to ship musket locks to Bilbao, Spain, as he did last summer. [Silas] Dean and [Benjamin] Franklin are acting with him.
