Folios 40-41. A letter from John Porten to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] concerning deficiencies in the trade embargo against France. Enclosing: Folio 41. Extract of a letter from Robert Gordon, Commissary of Provision at Corke [?Cork, Ireland]. Gives the example of Martin Meaglier of London, captain of the 'True Endeavour', who pretends his cargo of barrels of beef is destined for London, when it is generally known he sails for Bordeaux.
