Audit Scotland was established in 2000 under the Public Finance and Accountability (Scotland) Act 2000 and is an executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. It provides services to the Auditor General for Scotland and the Accounts Commission for Scotland, and is responsible for auditing the finances of public organisations in Scotland, including, the Scottish Government, local councils and authorities, police and fire services, and NHS Scotland.
