Administrative / biographical background

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee was established in 2004 under the Courts Act 2003. It is responsible for modernising court procedure and practice and making the Criminal Procedure Rules for all criminal courts in England and Wales, up to and including the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). These rules govern the way cases are managed and the Committee's goal is to simplify and streamline them. The Committee is an advisory non-departmental public body of the Ministry of Justice.
