Copy letter dated at Custom House, London from Edward Stanley to John Robinson enclosing:- Folios 201-202. A copy of an express dated at Custom House Rye from W Davis, Collector and Jn [John] Hogben, Deputy Comptroller, to the Commissioners of Customs that they gave immediate instructions to Captain Haddock to remove the rudder of a privateer cutter belonging to Hastings, believed to have been employed in smuggling before she came into port and manned by the people from the smuggling boats they stopped on 27 September. As the order to Captain Haddock and the stopping of the smuggling boats was by their directions they ask whether they are to detain or release the vessels.
