Description

Folios 169-170. Folio 169. Letter dated at Parliament Street from Grey Cooper 'My dear Sir Stanier!, Can nothing be recommended to be done for the poor unfortunate petitioner? His miseries touch my heart and so they will yours. I have leave of absence for a week. I shall be at Worlington near Newmarket till next Sunday morning - if you can send me any news. This I admit is rather too much to request from you at present'. Folio 170. Jacob Benider, late British Vice Consul in Barbary, to Sir Grey Cooper. Memorial dated at Number 28 Angel Court. High Street Borough [Southwark] that it is three and a half years since Benider repeatedly put his case and situation and that of his large and helpless family to Sir Grey which resulted from the Treasury suspending the yearly payment of £100 until the Secretary of State's department issued a new order. Benider 'in the greatest agonies implores' Cooper's 'protection by interceding at the Board in his behalf that he [Cooper] may be enabled to administer some kind of alleviation to the deplorable calamities under which he [Benider] and his afflicted family are labouring'.
