Folios 130-131. Letter marked 'Private' and dated at St James's from Sir Stanier Porten to John Robinson suggesting the desirability of cautioning the Commissioners of Customs not to direct the prosecution of the 'St George', seized for having 'some borachios or elastic bags' [wine carriers made from animal skins] on board, until Lord North is further informed of the case. Porten says that the Commissioners should be notified without delay the Portuguese having 'at present so much reason to complain of the conduct of many of our privateers that we can scarce keep them in good humour and it is desirable to avoid new discussions'.
