The Collections Trust began as the Museum Documentation Association (MDA) in 1977. The MDA relaunced as the Collections Trust in April 2008.
The Collections Trust is the UK's lead organisation for documentation and the management of information about museum collections. Since 1994 they have published 'SPECTRUM: The UK Museum Documentation Standard'.
