Description

Folios 156-157. Folio 156. Letter from J [James] Adair to Lord Hillsborough. 'There have been so many capital convictions since my last report, during my unavoidable absence from the court, that I am afraid it will be absolutely impossible for me to make a report of the remaining convicts so early as Wednesday especially as we shall not be able to finish at the Old Bailey before tomorrow evening. I must therefore entreat your Lordship to request that his Majesty will be pleased to postpone the report till Friday next, on which day or any subsequent one I shall be ready to obey his Majesty's commands. Folio 157 verso. 'From Mr Recorder of London In case Your Majesty should think fit to defer the Recorder's Report, on what day will Your Majesty be pleased to receive it? [In pencil] the Recorder to be appointed at one o'clock on Friday instead of tomorrow. [In red ink] The King was pleased to write on the back of this paper as follows. The Recorder to be appointed at one o'clock on Friday instead of tomorrow'.
