Folios 116-117. Letter dated at Crescent Bath [Somerset from Jno [John] Jefferys, Town Clerk, to Lord Hillsborough enclosing a short abstract of the names and descriptions of and the crimes charged on several of the rioters. He suggests that although the city's charter requires the magistrates to commit offenders they cannot try to either the county jail at Ilchester or Shepton Mallett, it would be better that they remain in the city's prison which is well guarded by the Militia and recommends that any trial of the rioters is held in Bath to restore to its inhabitants the idea of the city 'being an agreeable asylum of a peaceable retreat of ease safety and security'. Enclosure not filed here.
