Folio 105. Letter dated at Alton [Hampshire] from John Child to Sir Stanier Porten that he has discovered that for some days past there have been many more male passengers on the six stage coaches stopping daily in Alton and thinks some may be rioters from London. He suggests that, if thought proper, he could covertly observe the passengers, especially those not booked at the London inns from which the coaches leave, and, if authorised could secure any of them thought to be rioters.
