Folios 93-96. Folios 93-94. Letter dated at Bath from John Chapman, Mayor, to Lord Hillsborough giving a detailed account of the action, including reading the Riot Act, taken by him on learning of the destruction of the newly built 'Romish chapel' and the adjacent houses near to St James's Parade. He mentions the Bath Royal Volunteers, the Dragoons at Devizes and Bradford [on Avon], the Herefordshire Militia, one John Butler a servant to a Mr Baldwin in the Crescent and the supposed fire at Mr Jolly's. With the letter are enclosed:- Folio 95. Handbill dated 10 June 1780 advising people to stay quietly in their homes 'lest they should suffer with the guilty' and requesting all masters of families to keep their apprentices and servants at home. Printed. Folio 96. Handbill dated 11 June 1780 offering a reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the man described and any other person involved in pulling down and burning the Roman Catholic chapel in Bath. Printed.
