Folio 68. Anonymous letter dated at London addressed to Lord Hillsborough. 'It appears from a pamphlet lately published, intitled, the History of the Inns of Court etcetera, that the revenues of those Inns etcetera are perverted to purposes foreign to the intentions of the original founders thereof, and are dissipated in gluttony etcetera. It is therefore submitted whether it would be proper to convert them into barracks, as there is room enough for at least 20,000 soldiers. This measure would ease the publicans within the Bills of Mortality etcetera.'
