Folios 293-295: William Bligh, Government House, Sydney, New South Wales. Is sending letters from Captain Joseph Short to Captain [Phillip Gridley] King, late Governor, from Captain Short to himself and from Captain King to himself.
Folios 295-297: Enclosure in folios 293-295: Captain Phillip Gridley King, HMS Buffalo, Port Jackson to Governor William Bligh, December 20th 1806. Concerning Captain Short’s letter about a false muster on HMS Buffalo’s books, which he was very surprised at, but more surprised when he saw the letter from Captain Short to Governor Bligh, he feels it has been done through a malignant motive. It concerns Mr. Jamieson, Midshipman’s age. Gives details of his service on HMS Lady Nelson tender to HMS Buffalo and the transfer of the complement to HMS Porpoise. It seems extraordinary to him that if has taken Captain Short four months to complain, having accepted Mr. Jameson on board HMS Porpoise.
Folio 298: Enclosure in folios 293-295: Captain Joseph Short, HMS Porpoise, Sydney to Governor William Bligh, 18th December 1806. Mr. Jameson reported to him that he had been left behind from HMS Lady Nelson, which surprised him as he given orders to Mr. Symons not to leave any crew behind. It seems as though Mr. Jameson is only 12 years of age despite being mustered on HMS Buffalo as an Ordinary Seaman. He does not want to be charged with a false muster so is reporting the situation. He understands, from Mr. Barden, that the ship’s company is to go on half allowance of spirits, requests a written order for the same.
Folios 299-300: Enclosure in folios 293-295: Captain Joseph Short, HMS Porpoise to Captain Phillip Gridley King, HMS Buffalo, 17th December 1806. Concerning the age of Mr. Jameson, who was sent from HMS Buffalo into HMS Lady Nelson.
Folios 301-302: Lord Castlereagh, Downing Street to Governor [Phillip Gridley] King, 20th November 1805. Letter delivered by Captain William Bligh who is his successor, as he was informed in a letter dated 13th July 1805 sent on HMS William Pitt. As the appointment comes after a personal request to be relieved he would like to pass on the King’s thanks for his service.
