Administrative / biographical background

The National Monuments Record (NMR) is the public archive of English Heritage. It is one of the largest publicly accessible archives in the UK and the biggest dedicated to the historic environment.

In April 2012 the National Monuments Record (NMR) was renamed the English Heritage Archive.

In 2015 the archive and other statutory and advisory departments of English Heritage became Historic England, and the archive was renamed the Historic England Archive.
