A letter from John Robinson to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] on 9 November 1775, concerning a gentleman carrying [?pro-American] papers, a passenger aboard the 'Catherine' from Jamaica which put in at Whithaven [Whitehaven, Cumberland] who then travelled on to Cotton Wharf, London. Enclosing: Folio 124-125. A letter from R E Philips, dated at Customs House, Edinburgh on 6 November 1775. Enclosing: Folio 126-127. A letter from Geo [George] Campbell and Wm [William] Smith, dated at Customs House, Portpatrick [Wigtownshire] on 2 November 1775. The surveyor of Whitehaven, David Morris, reporting that the 'Catherine' was bound for Greenock from Virginia and New England; and the gentleman's passage to London aboard the 'Oliver Branch', John Porvie [?John Powe] master.
