Folios 52-54. Report of the Scottish Customs Commissioners to the Lords of the Treasury, dated at Customs House, Edinburgh, concerning the attempted recovery of fish and salt by Irish fishermen, in the Shetland Islands. Wherries from Rush and Skerrico [Skerries, Ireland] arrived in the island of Vaila, where they were illegally catching and curing fish. William Chalmers, collector of Customs, and a party seized the fish and brought them to Lerwick. There 80 Irish fishermen attempted to recover them, but were resisted with help from crew-members of HMS 'Peggy'. Mentions: Isaac Newton of Boghall, Yorkshire; John Bruce Stewart of Symbister.
