A letter from Grey Cooper to Richard Stonehewer, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex], concerning a collision with a French fishing boat from Boulogne [France] on 8 May 1766. The French Ambassador [Comte de] [Count of] Guerchy has lodged a complaint against the commander of a 'Mecklenbourg' Admiralty cutter, Captain Hervey J'Anson. For the information of the Duke of Richmond. Enclosing: Folio 43-44. J Fremantle to Cha [Lowndes], dated at Customs House, London, on 19 June 1766, finding fault with the French vessel. Enclosing: Folio 45-46. Copy of the Collector and Comptroller of Dover [Kent] Chr [?Christopher] [?Christian] and Rooth Colebran, dated at Customs House Dover, dated 17 June 1766. Enclosing: Folio 47-48. Copy of an affidavit from the mariners on the Meckelenburg cutter, on 10 May 1766, alleging the French boat was a smuggling vessel seeking to out-sail the cutter.
