Description

Folios 13-19. A letter from Cha [Charles] Lowndes to Will [William] Burke, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex] on 1 August 1765. Concerns information on the subsistence of English prisoners [of war] in the French Leeward Islands, for Secretary [Henry Seymour] Conway. Enclosing: Folio 14-15. Report from the Commissioners for Sick and Hurt Seamen, dated on 29 July 1765, after the delivery of French accounts by the Comte de [Count of] Guerchy. Questions whether Monsieur de la Riviere, as late Intendant of Martinique, has authority to authorise charges relevant to Guadeloupe and Granada. Signed by: Le Guiguer; and J Maxwell. Folio 16. Lowndes to Burke, dated at Treasury Chambers on 1 October 1765. Seeks a copy of the convention signed with France at London on 27 February [1765]. Folio 17. Lowndes to Burke, dated at Treasury Chambers on 7 December 1765. Concerns an authority granted to Viscount Barrington on 6 March 1765 to receive funds. Folio 18. A warrant for a bill authorising £670,000 for subsisting and maintaining prisoners of war, dated at St James's on 28 February 1765. Signed by: Lord North; John Turner; and Thomas Orby Hunter.
