A letter from Thomas Whatley to Edward Sedgwick, at Lord Halifax's office, dated at Treasury Chambers [Whitehall, Middlesex], concerning an assault on Mr Heron, Collector of Pocomoke, Maryland. Enclosing: Folio 10. A letter form Edward Stanley to Charles Jenkinson, dated at Customs House London. Enclosing: Folio 11-12. Extract of Heron's letter. Recounts an assault on him by one Graham, the owner of a brigantine which, when put up for sale, received no bids. Relates to the illicit trade in molasses. Heron laments that his posting places him 'amongst nothing but a gang of smugglers'.
