Folio 125. Anonymous and idiosyncratically spelt letter, marked as received 9 June 1780 11.00 am, addressed to Mr Robison [Robinson] secretary to Lord North, Parliament Street expressing surprise that 'you did not foresee the wicked design of bringing a bill into the House in favour of the Roman Catalonnges [sic] for it was intended to overturn the present Government and the next Members of Parliament is all swore to repel [repeal] the act and both King and Ministers to be proved roman Catalonges [sic]'. The writer says that the only course of action is to repeal the act as soon as possible or else the consequences will be very bad. 'There is a mob on foot supported and encouraged by designing men to support protestants [sic] down with popery But believe me religion is not the cause for they are composed of house breakers pickpockets and all manner of wagerts [sic]'. The letter continues in the same vein.
