Description

Captured ship: St Peter of Glückstadt (master Peter Matthias Roper) [first capture].

History: a Swedish merchant ship (200 tons) bound from Newcastle to San Sebastian, laden with coals and lead; taken on 27 May / 6 June 1691 in the English Channel by HMS Dover (Edward Whitaker commanding), and brought into Margate.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 7:

  • [CP 1]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Glückstadt;
  • [CP 2-CP 4]: allegation, two sets of interrogatories;
  • [CP 5-CP 6]: attestation sent in from Glückstadt, with translation;
  • [CP 7]: two attestations relating to the sale of the coals at Queenborough.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 23 October 1691; appealed].
