The London Stock Exchange was originally founded in 1801 and is one of the world?s oldest stock exchanges. In 1991 the governing Council of the Exchange was replaced with a Board of Directors drawn from the Exchange's executive, customer and user base and the organisation?s trading name became ?The London Stock Exchange?. In 2007 the London Stock Exchange merged with Borsa Italiana, to create the London Stock Exchange Group.
