Folio 47. The petition of George Howell, late commander of the Bordeaux packet from London, dated at London, seeking the discharge of French prisoner Gabriel de Longeville, second captain of the 'Duchess de Chartres', now a prisoner in Ashburton, Devonshire. After the imposition of the embargo, Howell was himself made prisoner at Bordeaux, on 23 March 1778, and his ship was detained. But he was baled on condition of procuring de Longeville's release. Mentions his service under Admiral [Edward] Boscawen and Admiral [George] Pocock.
