Description

Captured ship: Neptune (master Gustavus Sturck).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (120 tons) bound from Bordeaux to Gothenburg, laden with wine and brandy; taken on 11/21 August 1691 near Dover by the privateer Elizabeth and Catherine (William Young commanding), and brought into the Downs or Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: interrogatories, six examinations and commission;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestations;
  • [CP 6]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of the merchants in Bruges;
  • [CP 7-CP 10]: four allegations;
  • [CP 11-CP 12]: commission of appraisement and inventory;
  • [CP 13]: ship’s pass submitted as an exhibit;
  • [CP 14-CP 15]: two sets of interrogatories.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP A/1-SP A/4 and SP B/1-SP B/11, including ship’s passes and accounts for previous voyages.
