Description

Captured ship: North Star of Gothenburg (master Jonas Junger).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (130 lasts) bound from Gothenburg to La Rochelle, laden with deals, masts, spars, clapboard, tar, starch, tin plates, lead, coal and iron; taken on /11 July 1694 off Beachy Head by HMS Elizabeth (Robert Wilmot commanding), and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 3:

  • [CP 1]: two examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Gothenburg;
  • [CP 3]: abstract and translation of a letter to the merchants Oriot & Behrens.

[Decision: ship restored, cargo condemned 20 July 1694; appealed].
