Description

Captured ship: Nord Staer or North Star of Altona (master Paridom Jastram) [first capture].

History: a Danish merchant ship (240 tons, 11 guns) bound from Dunkirk to Setúbal, in ballast; taken on 6/16 April 1691 off Calais by HMS Portsmouth (William Whetstone commanding), and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 5:

  • [CP 1]: two examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Denmark;
  • [CP 3]: allegation;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: one examination, interrogatories.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 5 May 1691; appealed].
