Captured ship: St Martin (master unknown, prize master Jacob Edwards, coxswain of HMS St Albans).
History: a French merchant ship (galliot hoy or dogger hoy, 80 tons) bound from La Rochelle to Dieppe, laden with sugar; taken on 23 June / 3 July 1689 off Guernsey by HMS St Albans (John Laton commanding), and brought into Sandwich Bay [Swanage Bay] about 16 miles from Poole, although Edwards' instructions were to take the prize into Portsmouth or Plymouth; Customs officers from Poole went aboard the ship in Swanage Bay and persuaded Edwards to bring the prize into Poole.
